Driver Killed in Semi-Truck, Minivan Crash on Highway 99 in Sutter County

SUTTER COUNTY, CA (January 9, 2023) — A driver died after a semi-truck and a minivan were involved in a head-on accident on Highway 99 near Highway 113.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 11:00 p.m. Thursday.

For DUI reasons, a driver of a 2017 Dodge Caravan drove into the path of a semi-truck at a high rate of speed. As a result, the Caravan and the 2020 Kenworth T680 semi-truck hauling a 53-foot trailer collided head-on.

Shortly after, an off-duty CHP officer drove to the scene and found the Dodge driver deceased. The semi-truck driver declined medical aid.

The fatal crash left the highway closed for nearly three hours as crews removed the vehicles and cleaned the area of debris.

In the investigation, CHP officers determined that DUI played a factor in the accident. However, if anyone has more information, please call the CHP.
