Big Rig Crashes Head-On with SUV on Highway 299 in Redding, Driver Killed

 
REDDING, CA (August 21, 2022) – One person was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 299 in Redding on Thursday afternoon, August 18.
 
The accident happened near Whiskeytown Lake in the area of Kennedy Memorial Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, a big rig collided head-on with a red Ford Explorer. The impact forced the SUV to spin out of control and the big rig to burst into flames.
 
The fire has spread to vegetation with flames moving up the hillside, causing panic among residents of the area.
 
First responders pronounced the driver of the SUV dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the big rig sustained unspecified injuries.
 
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
