Driver Dies after Speeding Big Rig Rear-Ends Tractor-Trailer on 10 Freeway near Chiriaco Summit

 
CHIRIACO SUMMIT, CA (August 16, 2022) – A man was killed in a big rig accident on 10 Freeway on Friday afternoon, August 12.
 
The accident happened around 5:20 p.m. near Chiriaco Summit. According to the CHP, the man was driving a Freightliner box truck at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a stopped tractor-trailer. The impact caused the box truck to catch fire.
 
First responders pronounced the box truck driver dead at the scene.
 
The Riverside County Coroner withheld the man’s identity at this time.
 
The crash also pushed the stopped tractor-trailer into another vehicle, but no other injuries were reported.
 
An investigation is underway. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash. Anyone with further information is urged to call traffic investigators at 760-772-5300.
