Rio Vista Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 12 Kills 4 and Injures 6
RIO VISTA, CA (July 29, 2022) – Laura Poiret was among four people who died in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 12 in Rio Vista on Wednesday evening, July 27.
The accident happened around 8:15 p.m. at Summerset Road. According to the Rio Vista Police Department, a Honda Accord with three people inside was traveling westbound on the highway when it veered off the roadway. The driver overcorrected and entered the eastbound lane when the Accord collided head-on with a large Chevrolet Suburban carrying seven people.
Poiret, a woman in her mid 70s, was one of the passengers in the Suburban. She died at the scene.
The 20-year-old driver of the Accord from Rancho Cordova was ejected from the vehicle. A 19-year-old Vacaville woman and another woman were also in the car. One of them was also ejected when the car crashed. All three of them also died at the scene.
Six other people, including two minors, were transported to nearby hospitals.
Police had not yet made a DUI determination, but they found a significant number of alcoholic beverage containers in and around the Honda.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
