Anthony Lopez Dead, Jon Kiesel Detained in Escondido Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (June 27, 2022) — Anthony Lopez died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Bear Valley Parkway at Grand Avenue.
 
According to Lt. Scott Walters, the fatal hit-and-run occurred around 9:27 p.m. on Saturday. For unknown reasons, 70-year-old Jon Edwin Kiesel fled the scene after hitting 14-year-old Lopez in a marked crosswalk.
 
Within minutes, officers responded and found Lopez lying in the roadway and rushed him to Palomar Medical Center.
 
Despite receiving life-saving efforts, Lopez died from his injuries.
 
While canvassing the scene, investigators learned that a black 2021 Lexus RX350 struck Lopez, and police arrested Kiesel, booking him into the Vista Detention Facility for hit-and-run. It appears the Escondido driver struck Lopez as he began walking against and No Walk sign.
