Crash Involving 2 Big Rigs and Car on 5 Freeway in Kings County Injures 3

KINGS COUNTY, CA (June 16, 2022) – Three people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident on 5 Freeway in Kings County late Tuesday evening on June 14.

The accident happened around 11:10 p.m. just north of Highway 41 and south of Kettleman City. According to the California Highway Patrol, an Audi was heading southbound on the freeway when it made an unsafe turn. It then crashed into the side of a big rig trailer traveling in the same direction.

The impact caused the Audi to lose control and overturn on its roof. The big rig went down an embankment and ended up in a ravine.

The man driving the Audi got out of his car to look down into the ravine. That was when he was hit by a box truck.

The driver of the box truck did not stop, and is now wanted for hit-and-run.

A helicopter took both drivers of the big rig and Audi to a hospital with major injuries.

A passenger in the big rig suffered minor injuries.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.

When driving, pay attention to your surroundings and look out for other vehicles. Follow traffic rules and practice defensive driving. And when you get involved in an accident, do not leave the scene. Stop and call the authorities.
