Police Arrest Teen for DUI after Fatal Crash in Desert Hot Springs

 
DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA (April 11, 2022) – Police arrested Christopher Burciaga for DUI after a fatal crash in Desert Hot Springs on Friday evening.
 
The accident happened around 8:15 p.m. on April 8 in the 14000 block of Palm Drive. According to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, the 19-year-old suspect from Desert Hot Springs was allegedly driving a Ford Ranger southbound while under the influence of alcohol when he made an illegal U-turn in front of a Toyota Tundra.
 
The two vehicles collided, causing the Toyota to roll over.
 
The 25-year-old driver of the Toyota suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Burciaga allegedly fled the scene, but officers located him at his residence a short time later and took him into custody.
 
Police booked Burciaga into the sheriff’s John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run causing death and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.
