Richard Smith Fatally Injured after Big Rig Crash on County Road 99W at County Road 7

 
ORLAND, CA (March 18, 2022) — A Corning man identified as 59-year-old Richard Smith died in a big rig crash on Monday, March 14.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened on County Road 99W at County Road at about 6:00 a.m.
 
Veron McGuire, a 61-year-old man from Chico, drove a big rig north on County Road 99W towards County Road 7. At the same time, Smith drove a 2009 Nissan south on County 99W just north of County Road 7.
 
McGuire turned west onto County Road 7 into the direction of Smith’s vehicle. After that, the front of McGuire’s vehicle collided with the left front side of Smith’s Nissan.
 
Smith then collided into a power pole at the southwest intersection. The CHP said Smith did not wear his seatbelt at the time of the incident.
 
McGuire did not sustain any injuries. There are no arrests made.
 
The CHP said there are no stop signs in County Road 99W for either northbound or southbound traffic.
