Pilot Dies after Helicopter Crashes near Sonoma and Chandler Avenues

 
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (February 20, 2022)Steven Wilson died in a helicopter crash in Fresno County on Tuesday evening, February 15.
 
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson had been crop-dusting. When the crop-dusting company had not heard from him in a while, employees got concerned and called the sheriff’s office around 9:30 p.m. to report him missing.
 
Around 11:00 p.m., authorities began searching for the helicopter in the area Wilson had been working in but were unable to find it.
 
Authorities pinged Wilson’s phone, which led them to the wreckage of the 1967 Bell UH-1H helicopter near Sonoma and Chandler avenues around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.
 
Paramedics also responded and found Wilson dead inside of the helicopter.
 
Wilson was 53-year-old Shafter resident. He had worked with American Ag Aviation for over 20 years. He was also the owner of Kern Aviation and Inland Valley Aviation.
 
Investigators will be looking at a number of factors which could have caused the crash, including wind.
