Head-On Accident on Highway 29 in Calistoga Kills Driver Primitivo Romero

 
CALISTOGA, CA (February 17, 2022) – A man died in a head-on accident on Highway 29 in Calistoga on Thursday, February 10.
 
The Napa County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 56-year-old Calistoga resident Primitivo Romero.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, around 9:18 a.m. Romero drove a GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck southbound on Highway 29 south of Diamond Mountain Road when he went over the double yellow lines into the northbound lanes.
 
Police stated Romero traveled at a high rate of speed and unsafely crossed into oncoming traffic, directly into the path of a Ford E-250 van. As a result, the pickup truck and van crashed head-on.
 
Officials pronounced Romero, the only occupant in the truck, dead at the scene.
 
The 33-year-old Napa man who drove the van suffered major injuries. As a result, paramedics transported him by REACH air ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The front passenger, a 51-year-old Napa man, was also injured. Paramedics transported him in an ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa.
 
At this time, the cause and factors of the crash remain under investigation.
