2 People Killed in Modesto Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 132

MODESTO, CA (February 7, 2022) — Two people died in a hit-and-run accident on Highway 132 near Gates Road on Sunday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-car accident happened around 2:30 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 2011 GMC traveling westbound on Highway 132 went off the north edge of the road. Subsequently, the vehicle struck several trees before it came to a rest.
 
Due to the nature of the crash, a 23-year-old Hayward man and a 36-year-old San Jose man suffered injuries in the crash. Soon after, authorities and paramedics responded to find the two men, who reportedly were not wearing their safety belts, dead at the scene and the driver unaccounted for.
 
According to a witness, the passing motorist believes they noticed a man in his 20s wearing a dark hoodie leaving the pickup truck.
 
At this time, officers need the public’s help to identify the whereabouts and identity of the driver who might have taken a ride with a passing motorist near Gates Road. Therefore, anyone with information on this fatal crash should contact the CHP.
