Man Killed in Head-On Accident on Highway 119 at Elk Hills Road [Taft, CA]

Driver Dies after Colliding Head-On with Dump Truck on Highway 119 in Taft

 
TAFT, CA (November 30, 2021) – A man was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 119 just north of Taft on Monday morning.
 
The accident happened around 9:14 a.m. on November 29, on Taft Highway at Elk Hills Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a pickup truck westbound on the highway when he drifted into the eastbound lane. He then collided head-on with a three-axel dump truck.
 
As a result, the pickup truck driver died at the scene. He was only identified as a 38-year-old Bakersfield resident. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release his name once his family members are notified.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the dump truck sustained minor injuries, but declined medical aid.
 
Crews closed both eastbound and westbound lanes of Taft Highway for about two hours while they cleared the wreckage.
 
Officers are investigating whether the Bakersfield man was distracted by his cellphone.
