81-Year-Old Maria Ortiz Killed, Anna de Guzman, Mariana Guzman Hurt after Car Crashes into Canal off Mc Gee Avenue near Rice Road

 
STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (September 23, 2021) — Maria Ortiz died Saturday night after a car crashed into a canal off Mc Gee Avenue near Rice Road.
 
According to authorities, the single-car accident happened around 10:50 p.m. Under unclear road conditions, a southbound Toyota Camry shuttling four passengers on Mc Gee Avenue left the road. The driver, 51-year-old Anna Canales de Guzman, reportedly made an unsafe turning movement.
 
Subsequently, the Toyota left the roadway and crashed into a canal. Soon after, authorities responded to find the car submerged in the water.
 
Due to the crash, paramedics rushed the right front seat passenger, 81-year-old Maria Ortiz, to Memorial Medical Center where she died.
 
Canales de Guzman and two of the passengers were not injured. However, a third passenger, 22-year-old Mariana Guzman, suffered minor injuries.
 
At this time, information as to what caused the car to lose control of the Toyota requires further investigation. However, authorities have ruled out impairment as a possible source.
