Man Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Crash on Riverland Drive near Knighton Road

 
REDDING, CA (July 9, 2021) — A 25-year-old man died in a pedestrian accident on Riverland Drive on Monday, July 5.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, officers received reports of the crash on Riverland Drive near Knighton Road at around 2:45 a.m.
 
During their investigation, officers learned the victim walked southbound in the southbound lane of Riverland Drive. At the same time, 18-year-old Oscar R. Castro Jr. was behind the wheel of a southbound 1999 Toyota Corolla.
 
According to CHP, Castro did not have time to stop or steer away before he struck the victim.
 
Medics arrived at the scene and administered life-saving measures to the pedestrian. However, he succumbed to sustained injuries and died at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.
 
Authorities evaluated Castro at the scene. They determined that neither alcohol nor drug intoxication contributed to the incident.
