Two-Vehicle Accident on 8 Freeway in Alpine Kills 1 and Seriously Injures 3

ALPINE, CA (June 6, 2021) – A woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on 8 Freeway in Alpine Thursday night, June 3.

The accident happened around 6:00 p.m. near Tavern Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 65-year-old Chula Vista man was driving a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup on the westbound freeway. For unknown reasons, he collided with a westbound 2000 Toyota Solara sedan, driven by an 18-year-old Los Angeles man.

The impact caused both vehicles to veer toward the center divider, continue down a descending embankment and overturn.

The pickup’s rear seat passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. Authorities only identified her as a 63-year-old San Diego woman.

Both the driver and the pickup’s front-seat passenger, a 58-year-old Chula Vista woman, suffered major injuries. Paramedics transported both to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.

Meanwhile, the driver of the sedan also sustained serious injuries.

Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
