Driver Yingyathaij Lee Dies in Fresno Box Truck Crash on Highway 99

 
FRESNO, CA (October 8, 2021) — Two separate collisions early Sunday, October 3 on northbound Highway 99 just south of Herndon Avenue resulted in a death, according to CHP.
 
The victim was identified as 31-year-old Yingyathaij Lee of Clovis, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
 
When officers and other emergency crews responded, it was determined that two crashes had occurred around 2:20 a.m. The first led to a gray Hyundai Sonata blocking the No. 2 northbound lane on the highway.
 
The driver of a white Isuzu box truck was driving in the No. 2 northbound lane at an unknown speed. Meanwhile, the driver of a Toyota Camry had stopped on the right shoulder in an attempt to help the driver involved in the first crash. However, as the box truck approached the Sonata, the truck driver swerved to the right. As a result, into lane No. 3 and then onto the shoulder.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the front right bumper of the truck struck the right rear bumper of the Camry. As a result, the Camry crashed northeast onto the dirt shoulder.
 
For unknown reasons, a driver in a box truck driving two other occupants collided with a Toyota Camry on the right shoulder. Due to the impact, the force pushed the Toyota to the dirt shoulder and the box truck overturned onto its left side.
 
The box truck driver – identified as Lee – died from his injuries.
 
Paramedics transported two passengers in the truck and the Camry passenger to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
 
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor at this time.
