Yannira Rodriguez Dead, James Cox Arrested after Wrong-Way DUI Crash in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 5, 2023) – Authorities identified 32-year-old Yannira Rodriguez of Linda Vista as the victim killed in a wrong-way crash on 15 Freeway, early Saturday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 26, at about 1:30 a.m. A white Infiniti SUV headed the wrong way collided head-on with a black Honda Fit near Aero Drive.
 
The impact of the collision caused the northbound Infiniti to continue southbound and hit a tan Nissan.
 
Emergency crews pronounced the driver of the Honda, Rodriguez, dead at the scene. Her daughter needed hospitalization for treatment of a fracture in her hand and an injury to her mouth.
 
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help Yannira’s daughter with her education.
 
The driver of the Nissan did not sustain injuries.
 
Authorities booked the suspect, identified as 25-year-old James Cox, on several charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
 
Cox posted bail and will be back in court on September 11.
