Pedestrian Fatally Struck by SUV on 5 Freeway near Pershing Drive

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 11, 2021) — A woman in her mid-30s died after a pedestrian crash on 5 Freeway on Thursday, October 7.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place on 5 Freeway near Pershing Drive at about 7 a.m.
 
The woman, whose identity was not yet released, walked along the fog line of 5 Freeway. Then, a silver Ford in lane No. 1 struck her.
 
Medics rushed her to a hospital, where she died from sustained injuries, CHP spokesman Sal Castro said.
 
The driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with authorities, according to Castro. He added that officials do not suspect intoxication as a factor in the crash.
 
Officers closed two traffic lanes for 70 minutes and reopened them just after 8:10 a.m.
 
Castro said the county Medical Examiner’s Office conducted a toxicology report.
