Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Vehicle on Highway 99 Off-Ramp in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 17, 2022) – A woman died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 off-ramp in Bakersfield on Thursday evening.
 
The fatal accident happened around 8:05 p.m. on October 13 at Hosking Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2007 GMC traveling about 50 to 60 mph in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 swerved to avoid a woman who walked directly into the driver’s path.
 
However, the side of the vehicle struck the woman.
 
The impact caused the woman fatal injuries and she died at the scene. Authorities withheld her identity pending family notification.
 
Crews closed Highway 99 to Hosking Avenue for approximately two hours for the investigation.
 
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor.
