Police Arrest DUI Suspect after Striking Group of Pedestrians in Downtown Sacramento Killing One of the Victims

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (July 13, 2023) – A 38-year-old woman died and Israel Campos was arrested after a DUI crash in downtown Sacramento Sunday night on July 9.
 
The fatal crash happened around 6:30 p.m. near Jibboom Street and Richards Boulevard. According to the Sacramento Police Department, the 27-year-old suspect struck a group of pedestrians in the River District.
 
When officers arrived, they found four victims, two adult women and two children.
 
One of the women died at the scene. The second woman and the two children were rushed to a hospital with critical injuries.
 
Campos showed signs of intoxication. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
 
An investigation is ongoing. Police urged witnesses to call the dispatch center at 916-808-5471.
