Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver near Walerga Road in North Highlands

 
NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA (January 29, 2024) — A woman died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident at Walerga Road and Elkhorn Boulevard.
 
According to officials, the deadly hit-and-run happened around 9:43 p.m. Thursday. For unknown reasons, a woman in her 40s began crossing a marked crosswalk but against a red traffic light. Subsequently, a westbound vehicle with a green traffic light struck her but fled the scene shortly after.
 
As a result, the female pedestrian passed away from her injuries.
 
Authorities did not release her name or have information on the driver of the dark gray four-door sedan. If anyone has additional insight into this fatal crash, please call the California Highway Patrol.
