Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Elderly Driver on Highway 299 in Burney
BURNEY, CA (July 8, 2023) – A woman was killed in a bicycle accident on Highway 299 in Burney Monday evening on July 3.
The fatal accident happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. just east of Rocky Ridge Road near the Johnson Park area. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 38-year-old woman was riding her bicycle eastbound on the south shoulder.
An elderly driver of a 2015 Subaru Impreza was also traveling east when they drifted off the road onto the shoulder and struck the back of the bicycle.
As a result of the crash, the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
CHP officials said drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the crash and no arrests were made.
Further investigation is underway.
