Memorial Day Crash Involving DUI Driver on Highway 76 in Pala Area Leaves One Dead

 
PALA, CA (May 31, 2023) – A woman died in a DUI pileup crash on Highway 76 in Pala Monday evening on May 29.
 
The fatal crash happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. at Magee Road near Pala Casino. According to the California Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Bianca Anahy Hernandez of Pauma Valley was driving a Toyota Camry when she lost control and veered into the westbound lane. She then caused a multi-vehicle pileup involving a Hyundai Santa Fe, a Jeep Laredo and a Lexus GS-350.
 
The driver the Lexus, a 65-year-old Fountain Valley woman, suffered fatal injuries from the crash and died at the scene. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
 
Five other people suffered minor to moderate injuries.
 
Police later arrested Hernandez and booked her into county jail in Vista on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
 
Further investigation is underway.
