Woman Dead, 1-Year-Old Hospitalized in 3-Car Crash on 5 Freeway in Lost Hills

LOST HILLS, CA (July 7, 2023) — A woman died in a 3-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Twisselman Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal multi-car crash happened around 7:24 a.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a driver of a northbound 2008 International truck, traveling at 60 miles per hour, failed to see a 2023 Dodge Caravan. The Dodge, towing a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder by rope, was moving around 30 miles per hour in the second lane.

Subsequently, the International truck slammed into the back of the Pathfinder. The impact caused the Nissan Pathfinder to hit a barbed wire fence and crash into a dirt embankment, where it overturned. From there, the International truck proceeded to hit the Dodge Caravan.

Following the collision, the 45-year-old Nissan Pathfinder passenger — a woman — who was not wearing a safety belt was ejected and died in the crash. A 1-year-old toddler who was unsecured in a car seat suffered major injuries and received immediate care at Kern Medical.

At this time, CHP officers do not suspect alcohol or drugs to have played a role in the crash; however, an investigation continues.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
