Hit-and-Run Crash in Pomona Kills Man and Woman
POMONA, CA (May 30, 2023) – Two people died and Erik Elias Perez was arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Pomona Sunday evening on May 28.
The fatal crash happened around 8:45 p.m. in the 2800 block of Garey Avenue, just east of Bonita Avenue. According to the Pomona Police Department, an SUV and another car collided in the area for unknown reasons.
The SUV overturned from the impact and the other car had crashed into a tree.
A man and a woman, the driver and front seat passenger, both died at the scene.
Firefighters freed another woman believed between 50 and 60 years old from a back seat and took her to a hospital in critical condition.
One suspect fled after allegedly retrieving items from one of the vehicles and the other was detained by Pomona police.
Police said Perez, an 18-year-old man, was the one who triggered the crash. They later arrested him on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, grand theft auto and hit-and-run resulting in death, police said.
