Encino Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving CHP Unit on 101 Freeway Sends 2 People to Hospital

 
ENCINO, CA (September 27, 2023) – Two people were hospitalized in a multi-vehicle accident on 101 Freeway in Encino early Sunday morning on September 24.
 
The accident happened just after 12:40 a.m. near the Hayvenhurst Avenue exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, multiple vehicles including a CHP patrol car collided along the eastbound lanes of 101 Freeway.
 
It happened immediately after a CHP officer had pulled over a driver for an unrelated incident, authorities said.
 
Paramedics transported at least two people to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
The officer involved in the traffic stop and subsequent crash was not injured.
 
The CHP also confirmed reports that one of the drivers involved in the crash attempted to flee the scene, but officers were able to contact them and they were taken into custody.
 
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
