76-Year-Old Man Dies a Month after Hit-and-Run Crash on PCH in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA (March 29, 2023)Sy Thongdy died a month after a hit-and-run crash in Central Long Beach on February 19.

The fatal crash happened around 6:34 p.m. in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Pasadena Avenue. According to reports, Thongdy was on his way back home after visiting a funeral home in the area where he was paying respect to a relative that had recently died. He was crossing the street when an unknown vehicle struck him.

After striking him, the driver of the vehicle fled scene.

Paramedics rushed Thongdy to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, Thongdy’s condition quicky deteriorated, which required him to be intubated.

Thongdy had broken ribs, fractured neck bone, and no circulation in his legs. Although CT scans showed his brain seemed to be functioning well, the rest of his body was compromised.

Over the last week, Thongdy’s organs began failing, and on Friday, he died at the hospital with his family around him. He was 76 years old.

There is currently no known suspect information, but preliminary investigations suggest the suspect’s vehicle was a dark-colored sedan. The Long Beach Police Department is handling the investigation.
