Teenage Soccer Player Sophia Torres Dies after Struck by Car Last Month in El Dorado Hills
EL DORADO HILLS, CA (August 7, 2022) – 13-year-old Sophia Torres died after spending several weeks at a hospital after being hit by a car in El Dorado Hills on July 12.
Torres went out for a jog when a car struck her on Serrano Parkway. First responders rushed her to UC Davis Medical Center, where medical staff identified a subarachnoid hemorrhage and performed several surgeries.
On August 1, Torres succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. She played soccer for the San Juan Soccer Club, which is based in Rancho Cordova.
According to her family, Torres was supposed to enter her freshman year of high school at Oak Ridge High School this fall.
Nonprofit Thrive created a GoFundMe page to cover Torres’ medical expenses for the family.
An investigation into this fatality is underway.
