Authorities Identify Child, Adult Killed in Pittsburg DUI Accident

 
PITTSBURG, CA (April 14, 2021) – Authorities identified the two victims of a fatal DUI accident Monday night, April 12.
 
They were 7-year-old Sela Mataele-Rosalez and 28-year-old Romero Castro.
 
The accident happened around 6:03 p.m. on West Leland Road, just east of John Henry Johnson Parkway. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Camaro was speeding when it collided with a Toyota Corolla carrying the two victims.
 
The impact caused the Corolla to crash into several trees. Police said all three children were ejected from the car.
 
Rosales and Castro both died at the scene. Castro was the one driving the Corolla. He was a longtime partner of Sela’s mother and the father of one of the children in the car.
 
The crash also left a 1-year-old injured. Relatives said the child suffered a broken leg and collar bone. His 5-year-old brother was also in the car, along with their mother Corrina Rosalez who relatives said broke all her ribs.
 
Police arrested the driver of the Camaro, 25-year-old Christian Vargas, for felony DUI charges. They found alcohol in his car.
 
Further investigation is underway.
