Pursuit Ends in Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash on East Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (March 30, 2023) – Sara Nicole Shorteno died and eight other people were injured after a multi-vehicle pursuit crash in Long Beach Tuesday evening.
 
Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on March 28, a Seal Beach police officer tried pulling over a suspect near 5th Street and Marina Drive. The suspect did not yield and sped away on Pacific Coast Highway, leading officers on a pursuit.
 
The suspect later crashed into eight other vehicles near the intersection of East Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street around 8:15 p.m. The impact sent vehicles spinning in all different directions. Debris from crash were strewn across the roadway near an In-N-Out restaurant.
 
Long Beach Fire Department crews extricated one person from a vehicle.
 
Shorteno, a 74-year-old passenger from Toronto, died at the scene.
 
Eight other people, including an infant, were injured in the crash and taken to hospitals for treatment.
