Motorcyclist Dies in Sacramento Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 50
SACRAMENTO, CA (May 18, 2021) – Ronald Fitzgerald died in a multi-vehicle accident in Sacramento Wednesday last week, May 12.
The accident happened on Highway 50 near 59th Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 53-year-old victim was riding a 1987 Honda Shadow motorcycle when he crashed into a disabled 1971 Fiat that was blocking the slow lane.
CHP investigators said they do not believe the motorcyclist tried to brake before he hit the Fiat.
The impact ejected Fitzgerald from the motorcycle and the Fiat traveled across the highway, where the CHP says it was hit by a GMC SUV.
As a result, Fitzgerald suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.
The occupants in the GMC sustained minor injuries.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Ronald Fitzgerald.
