Rodger Watkins Killed in 2-Vehicle Accident at Atlantic Avenue and Anaheim Street
LONG BEACH, CA (February 22, 2024) — Rodger Watkins died in a two-car accident at Atlantic Avenue and Anaheim Street.
According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, 60-year-old Rodger Lee Watkins lost his life in the Tuesday night crash. For unknown reasons, a northbound 2012 Lexus IS250 broadsided an eastbound 2012 Ford Focus at the intersection.
Subsequently, the Ford hit a traffic signal and an abandoned building and the Lexus lost control, slamming into a bus bench.
Minutes later, emergency personnel shuttled the 31-year-old Lexus driver from Long Beach to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, Watkins, trapped in his Ford, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
At the time of the report, police said they were looking into distracted driving, DUI and speed as contributing factors. If anyone can help with the case, please call LBPD Detective Shawn Loughlin at 562-570-7355.
