UPDATE: Ricardo Gomez Perez, Manuel Velasquez Garcia Killed in Head-On Big Rig Accident on 5 Freeway [Lost Hills, CA]

Two Semi-Trucks Crash on 5 Freeway in Los Hills, Manuel Garcia and Ricardo Perez Identified

 
LOST HILLS, CA (July 26, 2022) – Two men were killed in a head-on big-rig accident on 5 Freeway in Los Hills on Monday, July 11.
 
The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the men as 54-year-old Ricardo Gomez Perez of Healdsburg and 44-year-old Manuel Velasquez Garcia of Montclair.
 
The accident happened around 3:25 a.m. just south of Twissleman Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Garcia drove northbound in a 2014 Freightliner truck when he crossed the dirt center median onto the southbound side of 5 Freeway. As a result, he collided with Perez, who drove southbound in a 2009 Kenworth truck.
 
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Nobody else was in either vehicle, according to the CHP report. At this time, investigators had not determined what caused Garcia to cross over the median.
 
the cargo loads in both trucks spilled onto the southbound lanes of the freeway and partially into the northbound side as well, prompting a temporary lane closure.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
