Police Arrest Driver for DUI after Fatally Striking Pedestrian in Modesto

 
MODESTO, CA (October 12, 2023) – A pedestrian was killed in a DUI crash at Standiford Avenue and Sherwood Avenue in Modesto late Tuesday evening on October 10.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:45 p.m. just west of McHenry Avenue. According to the Modesto Police Department, the 59-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Standiford Avenue from the north side when he was struck by a Honda Civic traveling east.
 
The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Coroner’s Office has not yet released his identity pending notification of his family.
 
Officers identified the driver of the Civic as 21-year-old Isabelle Fernandez of Modesto. They arrested her on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. They booked her at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
 
Fernandez remained in custody Wednesday morning on $250,000 bail, according to the Sheriff’s Department’s website.
