Man Dies in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 in Merced

 
MERCED, CA (October 16, 2023) — A pedestrian hit by multiple cars on Highway 99 near Plainsburg Road died Sunday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly pedestrian accident happened around 6:23 a.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, a man exited his car after crashing his Honda Civic on northbound Highway 99 with a big rig. Subsequently, he ran across the northbound and southbound lanes, where several motorists plowed into him.
 
Shortly after, paramedics and police officers arrived at the scene to tend to the injured man and the accident. Although several drivers stopped and cooperated with police investigators, two drivers of what authorities believe was a Hyundai and a blue Kia sedan left the scene.
 
Due to the severity of the accident, the pedestrian died from his injuries. At this time, authorities need the public’s help with searching for the cause and details.
