Man Injured in Pedestrian Accident on Los Angeles Street in South L.A.
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (February 9, 2021) — A male pedestrian suffered injuries in a train accident on Los Angeles Street Saturday January 23.
Los Angeles Fire Department officials said they received a report about a Metro A (Blue) Line train hitting a pedestrian at around 11:39 a.m. Firefighters and paramedics immediately responded to the 4000 block of South Los Angeles Avenue.
Upon arrival, the responders found a man entangled with the train. The LAFD responders immediately took action to free the pedestrian. Medical personnel then took the man to a regional trauma center for treatment and further evaluation.
Officials said the pedestrian was in critical condition. Meanwhile, no one on the train got hurt.
As to why the pedestrian was in the tracks, as well as the circumstances leading up to the collision, remain under investigation.
Train tracks and railroad crossings are a major safety concern. Only cross at designated railroad crossings marked by a sign, lights, or a gate. Never rush across as trains may be closer and faster than you think. Patiently wait for the trains to pass, the lights to stop flashing, and the gates to lift before crossing. Also, do not use your cell phone and remove your headphones to avoid distraction.
