Passenger Dies after DUI Driver Crashes Car into Tree on Highway 76 at Airport Road

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (June 6, 2023) – A passenger died and Guillermo Sanchez Pacheco was arrested after a DUI crash in Oceanside early Sunday morning on June 4.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:54 p.m. on Highway 76 at Airport Road. According to the Oceanside Police Department, the 29-year-old suspect from Oceanside was driving a 2003 Nissan Maxima eastbound on the highway when he lost control. He then crashed into a tree on the south shoulder of the roadway.
 
The rear passenger of the car, a man in his 30s, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His name was withheld at this time.
 
Pacheco and an unidentified front-seat passenger sustained minor injuries.
 
Police arrested Pacheco on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence alcohol.
 
Speed was also a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
