18-Year-Old Oswaldo Cardenas Jr. Dies after Hit-and-Run in Santa Rosa

 
SANTA ROSA, CA (September 5, 2023) – Authorities identified 18-year-old Oswaldo Cardenas Jr. as the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run collision on River Road, Sunday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on August 27. An SUV reportedly hit the victim near Rio Vista while he was walking with friends.
 
The driver of the SUV immediately left the scene.
 
On August 30, CHP responded to a vehicle fire reported on Llano Road near Doyle Drive. The vehicle, identified as a Buick Enclave, matched the hit-and-run vehicle as described by witnesses.
 
35-year-old Alyssa Whitten was later identified as the driver and owner of the Buick. Officers arrested Whitten on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
 
CHP continues to investigate the incident.
