One Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident on Highway 138 at Hess Road [Phelan, CA]

Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 138 in Phelan Kills 1 and Injures 2

 
PHELAN, CA (October 16, 2023) – One person died in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 138 in Phelan Saturday afternoon on October 14.
 
The accident happened around 4:00 p.m. at the intersection with Hess Road. According to the CHP, a silver GMC Sierra pickup truck and a gray Chevrolet Express van collided for unknown reasons. The impact caused the Sierra to veer off the roadway and into a drainage ditch. The van overturned onto its side.
 
An off-duty officer on scene said one person was pinned underneath the van. That person was reportedly unresponsive.
 
Responding San Bernardino County Fire crews confirmed a total of three injured patients.
 
Two helicopters transported two people with major injuries. A ground ambulance took the third patient to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
Sadly, one of the patients did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
