One Killed, Two Injured in Rollover Accident on 5 Freeway near Las Pulgas Road [Camp Pendleton, CA]

Morning Rollover Crash on 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton Kills Driver and Injures Two Passengers

 
CAMP PENDLETON, CA (June 26, 2024) – One person died and two other people were injured in a rollover accident on 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton Saturday morning on June 16.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:45 a.m. just south of Las Pulgas Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 20-year-old man from Mount Vernon, Washington, was driving a black BMW in the northbound lanes of the freeway when the car veered to the left and collided with the center median guard rail.
 
The vehicle then veered back to the right, where it rolled over and crashed into a call box and barbed wire fence.
 
Paramedics responded and tried saving the driver, but he died at the scene.
 
There were two other passengers in the car at the time of the crash. A 21-year-old male passenger from Oceanside suffered major, but non-life-threatening injuries. A 19-year-old female passenger had minor injuries.
 
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office withheld the driver’s identity at this time.
 
It was unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
