31-Year-Old Vista Man Dies after Struck by Car on Highway 78 in Oceanside

 
OCEANSIDE, CA (June 26, 2024) – A man was hit and killed by a car on Highway 78 in Oceanside early Tuesday morning on June 25.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:25 a.m. near El Camino Real. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Mercedes Benz CLK320 sedan was heading eastbound when it struck the man who was walking on the highway.
 
After the crash, the driver pulled into a nearby store and called to report the incident.
 
Responding emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but the man died at the scene.
 
Authorities only identified the victim as a 31-year-old Vista resident.
 
The driver of the Mercedes, a 59-year-old Escondido woman, was questioned by authorities. It is unknown if she faces any charges.
 
CHP officials are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. They asked anyone with information or may have witnessed the crash to contact the Oceanside Area CHP office at 760-643-3400.
