Crash Involving Four Vehicles on Highway 33 in Merced County Leaves 1 Dead

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (June 26, 2023) – One person died in a four-vehicle accident on Highway 33 in Merced County Saturday afternoon on June 24.
 
The fatal accident happened around 1:50 p.m. just south of Hulen Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a dark-colored Audi with tinted windows was traveling southbound when it tried to pass a silver SUV. It then got into the path of a black pickup truck heading north.
 
The driver of the pickup truck tried to avoid the car but lost control, hitting the SUV head-on.
 
The impact pushed the SUV onto the right side of the road, where it caught fire. The pickup truck rolled over in the roadway.
 
As a result of the crash, the driver of the SUV suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
The 19-year-old driver of the pickup truck and their passenger sustained minor injuries.
 
A Ford Mustang that was going south swerved to avoid the other vehicles and ended up in the ditch. The 31-year-old driver was unharmed.
 
CHP officials said they are still searching for the driver of the Audi that did not stop.
 
Drug or alcohol was not a factor in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
