Two Vehicles Collide on Highway 178 in Inyokern Killing One and Injuring Two
INYOKERN, CA (April 9, 2023) – One person died in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 178 in Inyokern Wednesday afternoon on April 5.
The fatal accident happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Highway 178 at Pinto Street, just near Buttermilk Acres Store. According to the California Highway Patrol, 54-year-old Dale Layton of Salome, Arizona, was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 eastbound on the highway. At the same time, a 68-year-old Inyokern man was driving a 2014 Nissan Versa westbound, approaching the intersection.
The man driving the Nissan made a left turn onto Pinto Street resulting a broadside crash.
As a result, the driver of the Nissan was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. His identity will be released through the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The Chrysler overturned and Layton received moderate injuries. His passenger, 68-year-old Diane Layton, suffered major injuries. Both were transported to Antelope Valley Hospital.
