Honda Sideswipes Big Rig Leading to Fatal Chain-Reaction Crash on 680 Freeway in Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, CA (November 8, 2021) – One person was killed in a chain-reaction accident on 680 Freeway in Pleasanton on Friday morning.

The accident happened around 5:50 a.m. on November 5 near the 580 Freeway interchange. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a Honda Civic sideswiped a big rig that was traveling in the fourth lane from the far left. The impact of that initial crash caused the Honda to lose control and cross all lanes of traffic.

The Honda then hit the center divider wall and came to a rest sideways in the far left lane. A Ford pickup truck then slammed into the Honda.

As a result, the driver of the Honda suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities will release their identity once family members are notified.

After the crash, CHP officials issued a SigAlert for severe traffic on southbound 680 Freeway just north of the interchange, because the two far left lanes were blocked.

An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.

Our sincere condolences go to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
