Afternoon Car Accident on 5 Freeway in Irvine Kills 1 and Injures Another

 
IRVINE, CA (November 28, 2022) – One person was killed in a car accident on 5 Freeway in Irvine Saturday afternoon on November 26.
 
The accident happened around 3:14 p.m. at the Barranca Parkway off-ramp, near the transition from the freeway to Laguna Canyon Road. According to the Orange County Fire Authority, a white Audi SUV struck a tree, went off the road and into the bushes.
 
One patient was trapped inside the SUV and was extricated by firefighters with hydraulic tools. Another patient was out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived.
 
Despite life-saving efforts, one of the two patients died at the scene. Paramedics transported the other to a trauma center in an unknown condition.
 
Irvine Animal Control was called to assist a medium-sized dog with a broken rear leg.
 
The cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
