Police Officer and K-9 Hospitalized in 2-Vehicle Crash at I Street in Eureka

EUREKA, CA (February 15, 2024) — An officer and a K-9 suffered moderate injuries in a 2-car accident at I Street and 7th Street.

According to Eureka Police officers, the two-vehicle crash happened around 8:00 p.m. on January 2. For an unknown reason, a driver entered an intersection at a red traffic light while I Street traffic had a green light. Subsequently, the driver plowed into the driver’s side of a patrol car.

As a result, both vehicles sustained moderate to major damage and came to a stop on the road.

Minutes later, medical personnel took the officer to a hospital for treatment and the officer’s K-9 partner, Odin, to a vet for an evaluation. Meanwhile, the driver stayed at the scene for questioning. However, authorities did not confirm the cause of the crash. If anyone has more insight, please call Eureka Police.

To increase road safety, pay attention. It is dangerous to run a red traffic light or a stop sign. These are used to efficiently streamline traffic and keep densely populated roadways safe. Running a red light often results in broadside collisions
