Sonoma Multi-Car Crash on 1st Street near Napa Street

SONOMA, CA (February 24, 2022) — Several drivers escaped injury in a multi-car accident on 1st Street near Napa Street on Friday afternoon.

According to Sonoma police, the multi-vehicle crash happened in front of Sebastiani Theatre. While a woman reversing from a parking space attempted to hit her brake for a car driving northbound, she instead struck her gas pedal.

Subsequently, her car accelerated into another vehicle traveling southbound, as well as a parked BMW SUV, tearing through its rear left axle. The 1950s-era Chrysler Coupe and the Ford Explorer also sustained moderate damage.

Although the crash involved several cars, neither the 70-year-old Sonoma woman nor the other drivers reported any injuries. At this time, officers have ruled out DUI as a possible explanation for the crash. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm the liabilities and other outstanding details.

When behind the wheel, you may confuse the gas pedal for the brake pedal. It may be common for drivers to go into autopilot when driving, but always be alert.
