Janice Leslie and Michiko Kitchen Hospitalized in Sonora Head-On Accident on Highway 108 near Hess Avenue
SONORA, CA (October 3, 2022) — Michiko Kitchen and Janice Leslie were injured in a head-on crash on Highway 108 near Hess Avenue.
According to reports, the two-vehicle collision happened around 7:24 a.m. on Friday. For unknown reasons, 87-year-old Kitchen allowed her 2008 Ford Escape to veer from the eastbound lane into westbound traffic traveling 55 miles per hour. Subsequently, her Ford collided head-on with a westbound 2002 Ford Expedition also traveling 55 miles per hour.
Leslie’s car veered off the highway. As a result, it traveled down an embankment while Kitchen’s car came to a stop on the road.
Moments later, paramedics reached the scene and found Kitchen with moderate injuries and airlifted her to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. In addition, they treated Leslie for minor injuries.
While investigators proved that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, a driver of a logging truck in the eastbound lane tried to make a U-turn to avoid the traffic delay. However, his logs shifted, further disabling the truck and trailer, and leaving the entire semi blocking both lanes of the highway.
Information related to what drove the accident remains unclear. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm what happened.
