Two Pickup Trucks Collide in Caruthers Killing 3 People

 
CARUTHERS, CA (April 21, 2024) – Mark Bruce, Blanca Martinez and Dezirae Perez was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Caruthers Friday evening on April 19.
 
The fatal accident happened just after 7:00 p.m. on Highway 41 at Nebraska Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, Bruce, 57, of Fresno, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Nebraska Avenue when he failed to stop at the stop sign.
 
The Silverado then collided with a 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 that was hauling a fifth-wheel travel trailer.
 
Both pickup trucks went down an embankment after the impact.
 
Bruce suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Martinez, an 18-year-old Selma resident, and Perez, a 17-year-old Fresno resident, were two of his three passengers. Both were also killed in the crash.
 
The third passenger sustained major injuries.

The two men inside the Dodge, ages 36-years-old and 40-years-old and both from Fresno, were transported to area hospitals with moderate-to-major injuries.

At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
