Marissa Pena Hospitalized, Denelle Hargrove Detained in DUI Pedestrian Crash on Highway 299 near Ransom Road

WEAVERVILLE, CA (September 18, 2023) Marissa Pena suffered major injuries in a DUI pedestrian accident on Highway 299 near Ransom Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the DUI crash happened around 12:51 p.m. Thursday. For DUI-related reasons, 64-year-old Denelle J. Hargrove struck a pedestrian with her blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Rather than pulling over to help, the Lewiston woman left the scene.

Soon after, witnesses followed Hargrove to the Holiday Market parking lot, where authorities arrested her. Back at the scene, Trinity River CHP officers, CAL FIRE and Trinity County sheriff’s deputies responded to assist the female victim.

Marissa A. Pena, 28, of Antioch sustained life-threatening injuries that required medics to rush her to Trinity General Hospital and Mercy Medical Center in Redding for additional treatment.

Authorities learned that DUI factored into the crash and charged Hargrove with DUI, hit-and-run and more.

Alcohol and drugs can do a number on the way you drive. Do not operate a car after consuming drugs or alcohol. These loosen your inhibitions and compromise your better judgment. Instead, let someone else take you home to prevent a crash.
